Chado Ralph Rucci was named the recipient of the 2009 Pratt Institute Fashion Icon Award. It is the fourth time the prize will be presented.

Previous recipients include of Diane Von Furstenberg, Narciso Rodriguez, and Carmen Marc Valvo. Rucci is currently concentrating on expanding the Chado Ralph Rucci collection overseas to London, Paris and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 2002, the Philadelphia born Rucci became the first American designer in over 40 years to be invited to show in Paris by the French Chambre Syndicale de Haute Couture.

Peter Som seems down on his luck now that his financial backer decided to drop his label only after a year and a half. He has since cancelled his runway show scheduled for New York Fashion Week...
“We have realized that our strategic interests are no longer aligned and feel that this is the best direction for our company at this time,” Som was quoted as saying. In 1997, he was recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America as a rising young talent. The San Francisco native recently resigned as the Creative Director for Bill Blass which since announced that it is closing its doors.
