Fashion designer Sonia Rykiel has finally gone public to disclose she has Parkinson's disease. After fifteen years of silence the 81 year-old decided to openly discuss her illness in a new book now that her symptoms are becoming more visible.

Rykiel has not been at the helm of her brand, now managed by her daughter, for several years. In 2010 the label launched a successful collaboration with H&M. The Queen of striped knits was quoted as saying in WWD... "I don't want to show my pain. I resisted, I hesitated, I tried to be invisible, to pretend that nothing was wrong. It's impossible, it's not like me."
